Education: Elementary Enrollment Increases
Kindergarten and elementary schools enrollment increased 37% from
17.7 million to 24.3 million between 1946-1956 due to the "baby
boom" generation after
World War II. A court case in California Mendez vs.
Westminster School District was won by the plaintiff,
Mendez, which stopped segregation of Mexican children in separate
schools. A year later this trickled down to Asians and Native
Americans. Eventually Blacks also were integrated into white schools
after Brown vs. Board of Education in Topkea in
1954.
