"In the Dartmouth College case (1819), the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the original contract from the king of England
that had given private status to the college. The case was important not
only in affirming the constitutional principle that the state could not
impair contracts (to convert Dartmouth College from a private to
a state college) but also in providing a strong foundation for the
system of private colleges secure from government control that we have
today."

Science: Symbols for the Elements
Swedish chemist Jons Jakob Berzelius (1779-1848, one of the founders
of modern chemistry) first proposed the adoption of using a symbol of the first letter (capitalized) in the name of each element,
or the first letter (capitalized) followed by an appropriate second letter.
Latin names for several metals were in common use at that time such as Au (aurum) for gold, and Ag (argentum) for silver.
