War of 1812 Begins
"Resentment for Britain’s interference with American international trade, combined with American expansionist visions, led Congress to declare war on Great Britain on
18 June 1812. A lot of people call the War of 1812 the second war for
Independence."
Westward Expansion / American Frontier:
"President Madison sends 200 troops to reinforce Fort Detroit.
Tecumseh and 24 warriors ambush the troops enroute. Even though
Tecumseh is vastly outnumbered he prevails then heads to Fort Detroit,
which was the American control center of the midwest/frontier.
Tecumseh's reputation is so feared the soldiers manning the fort give
up without a fight. Tecumseh holds the soldiers as prisoners of war in
order to negotiate with the U.S. With the defeat of Fort Detroit
Tecumseh's allies, the British claim Michigan Territory for the crown."
