  • Venus visible between the Earth and Sun, allowed American astronomer, Simon Newcomb, to calculate the distance between the Earth and the Sun using the calculations from 1874 & 1882 at 149.59 million kilometers.  The Venus transit happens in pairs every 105 years or so.
