It's magnificent twin towers, breathtaking span, cutting edge
technology, and sheer beauty make Brooklyn Bridge the grandest,
and perhaps the most important structure built in America during
the nineteenth century. It was called "the eighth wonder of the
world."

Location: Champ de Mars, Trocadero
(192 acres)
Architectural Wonder: main building was rectangular with the
first climate controlled exhibition using ventilation pipes. There
was a central promenade where the pavilions of foreign nations
divergent facades made for a flamboyant patchwork. The Trocadero
across the Seine river was modeled on a Roman amphitheater with a
dome and two Moorish minarets.
Visitors: 16 million
Novelties: The ice machine, electric lighting, the Statue of
Liberty's giant hand, torch, and head (still under construction)
