Mississippi Artillery (Seven Stars Artillery)
Seven Stars Light
Artillery was formed during the early summer of 1862 at Jackson,
Mississippi. Most of the men were from Hinds and Rankin counties. In
July the battery contained 4 officers and 130 men and was attached to
the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. On July 9, 1863, it
was captured at
Port Hudson.
The unit was exchanged, but in February, 1864, it disbanded. Many of the
men served in other Mississippi commands. Captain Calvit Roberts was in
command.
