| Lou Ann Carlson Stogdill "Sebastian Capella was the artist from whom Lou Ann took lessons when we lived in La Jolla, California. He has done portraits of the orginal seven astronauts, several national and California state political personalities and several movie stars. On Christmas Day, 1976, I gave Lou Ann "a box of rocks" - literally! To get her "off the scent," I disguised my gift in a large box and enclosed lots of loose items so the box would rattle. She was pleased that the box of rocks turned out to be a sitting with Sebastian. I talked with the artist beforehand and, because of the cost, I contracted for a "head and shoulders" portrait only. But he said that if he could do what he wanted, he would produce what you see on the front cover of this book for the same price. I readily agreed... The portrait is dated 1977. Lou Ann was 36 in 1977. The finished product was displayed prominently in our home, but Lou Ann always had a question as to whether the women in the Church would consider it "too risque" since her back was bare. But she loved the portrait so much that she eventually cared little what others might think." Tom Stogdill |
