My buddy Sean the pilot took pic. 1st flight into Wapikopa from Pickle Lake, 140 miles. It's 400 to fly in from Thunder Bay but just as fast because of first leg (365 mi.) in Pilatus 1hr. 10 min. to Ojibway village then a quick hop in a float plane to Wapikopa." |

| Frank Santen in Vietnam War "CH-34 departing Hill 190. That is the Namo River in background. I flew in these more than any other type helicopter. Pilot is using gravity to get this "ground lover" in the air. And, flying off a carrier, 90 miles out to sea in one of these. People wonder why I have grey hair!" " In 1969, flying "off" the LPD Duluth, one of the landing gear hit the rail of the catwalk. We "bounced off" and went on our merry way to the Batangan Peninsula. I have a model of one of these on my desk. Once, on a "milk run", the pilots let us shoot sharks. There were hundreds, what a show!" |
